2026 - The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified coordinated
security operations across the Coast region in a renewed effort to enhance
public safety and maintain peace.
Through intelligence-led strategies, increased patrols,
enhanced surveillance, strategic deployments and close multi-agency
collaboration, officers are proactively addressing emerging security threats
across the region.
Authorities say the Coast has recently witnessed a surge in
criminal activities, including armed robbery, burglary, drug trafficking and
the violent invasion of private land by armed gangs, particularly in Kilifi
County.
The trend has raised concern among residents and disrupted
the sense of security within affected communities.
In a targeted multi-agency operation, 17 suspects linked to
various criminal activities were arrested and placed in custody pending
arraignment.
During the crackdown, officers recovered one AK-47 rifle,
one magazine and 12 rounds of ammunition.
Detectives also seized more than 35 kilograms of suspected
narcotics, including bhang, heroin and cocaine.
Additionally, over 40 mobile phones and SIM cards believed
to have been used in coordinating criminal activities were recovered.
Officers also confiscated several crude weapons, including
clubs and machetes, as well as government stores such as police uniforms and
other items considered crucial to ongoing investigations.
Security operations remain ongoing, with intensified patrols
in identified hotspots and sustained intelligence efforts aimed at preventing
further criminal activity.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, protecting communities and upholding the rule of law across the Coast region.
