Tuesday, November 4, 2025 - A heart-wrenching video circulating on social media has sparked outrage among Kenyans after showing Nairobi City County askari, popularly known as kanjo, manhandling an elderly woman hawker in Kangemi.
In the viral clip, the aging woman is seen pleading with the
officer to spare her vegetables, which she was selling by the roadside to earn
a living.
Instead, the rogue askari is seen roughing her up and
confiscating her goods as onlookers shouted in protest.
The woman was trying to eke out a living along a busy street
when the kanjo officers swooped in, accusing her of operating without a
permit.
Their excessive force has since drawn condemnation from
netizens, who described the act as cruel and heartless.
