2025 - Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed that his
greatest regret, should he not be selected as the opposition’s presidential
flagbearer in 2027, would be missing the opportunity to debate President
William Ruto live on national television.
Speaking on Friday, September 26th, during the
People’s Liberation Party special delegates meeting hosted by Martha Karua,
Gachagua said the presidential debates would give him a chance to challenge
Ruto directly and expose his weaknesses.
“If I face him in the debates, I will roast him so badly.
That’s the only disappointment I would have,” he said.
Despite ongoing legal battles, Gachagua reaffirmed his
eligibility to run and emphasized that his personal ambition will not override
the opposition’s collective mission.
He pledged full support for any candidate the coalition
agrees upon, including Karua.
“If you convince us you are the candidate, I will campaign
for you the way I campaigned for Ruto,” he assured.
Gachagua praised Karua’s integrity, saying she represents
the kind of leadership Kenya needs, one that doesn’t steal from citizens or
incite violence.
He stressed that credibility and moral character must define
the opposition’s choice.
Meanwhile, several Mt. Kenya leaders have publicly endorsed
Gachagua’s presidential bid, signaling growing momentum around his candidacy.
His remarks have added fuel to the political realignments
already taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
