Friday, July 11, 2025 - Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohammed Ali, has sharply criticized Belgut MP, Nelson Koech, over remarks advocating for the use of deadly force against anti-Government protestors.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 11th, Ali
said calls for extreme measures by law enforcement only inflame tensions and
increase the risk of chaos and unnecessary loss of life.
“Shocked by the remarks made by MP, Nelson Koech, endorsing
a ‘shoot to kill’ order against protestors.”
“Advocating for the use of extreme force by police only fans
the flames of unnecessary violence and risks eroding the respect for human life
and dignity,” said Ali.
The UDA legislator urged fellow leaders to avoid inciting
the police into actions that could push the country deeper into lawlessness.
Ali further cautioned police officers to uphold their
constitutional duty and warned that they will bear personal responsibility for
any human rights violations.
“I urge the police to exercise restraint and honor their
duty to protect life.”
“They must remember they alone will be held accountable in
court for any violations,” he stated.
On Thursday, MP Koech, speaking in Kericho, controversially
said officers should “shoot and kill” if threatened, contradicting President
Ruto’s earlier stance of “shoot but do not kill.”
