‘My focus is not on 2027 re-election” - RUTO vows to fulfil all campaign pledges in “wantam’

Thursday, June 19, 2025 - President William Ruto has downplayed talk of a 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking during the Third National Executive Retreat at the KCB Leadership Centre in Kajiado County, Ruto said his focus remains firmly delivering on its campaign pledges, not the next election.

“Our focus is not the next election. Our focus is the transformation of Kenya,” Ruto said.

While responding to claims that his Government overpromised during the 2022 campaign, Ruto said:

“We did not overpromise - we promised what is doable.”

He acknowledged the reform journey has been tough and revealed that some advisers had urged him to delay difficult policy decisions until a potential second term.

However, he insisted that the time to act is now.

“We have been timid about what needs to be done in Kenya. I have no intention of escaping any commitment,” he said.

Ruto also addressed public concerns over the Affordable Housing Programme, assuring Kenyans that allocations will be transparent and non-discriminatory.

While inspecting the Kibera Soweto East Zone B project, he said residents will be given first priority.

“Allocations will not be done on an ethnic basis. All deserving Kenyans will benefit equally,” he stated.

On healthcare, the President highlighted the uptake of Taifa Care, the revamped universal health coverage scheme replacing NHIF.

Ruto revealed that over 23.3 million Kenyans have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

“Kenyans are seeing real change - SHA is already paying bills for many,” he said, urging more citizens to register.

“All our commitments are documented in the manifesto. I’m very clear we will deliver on them and earn the correct marks.”

In April, Ruto declared that he is prepared to go home and focus on farming in 2027 if he fails to meet the expectations of Kenyans.
