- Florence Ngina, the owner of the Airbnb where Pastor Kanyari’s sister, Scarlet Wahu, was murdered, has told detectives that John Matara, the suspect behind her murder, booked the house for one night on Wednesday.

They checked in on Wednesday but in the early hours of Thursday morning, she received a call from the gateman informing her that Matara had left the premises in a hurry with blood-stained clothes.

She rushed to the house and found it locked.

She used a spare key to open the house and found Scarlet’s body lying in a pool of blood.

Shocked by the turn of events, she rushed to South B Police Station and reported the matter.

When detectives visited the scene, they found condoms, bhang, a blood-stained kitchen knife, and an HIV testing kit.

Scarlet had been stabbed in the head and right thigh.

According to a DCI officer, the whole house was stained with blood.

“The scene was horrific.”

“They must have fought for a while as there were signs of struggling in almost every corner, apart from the kitchen,” the officer said.

Detectives arrested John at Mbagathi Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

He was allowed to be treated and taken to custody when doctors said he was fine.

John told detectives that Scarlet was his girlfriend.
