Thursday,
October 15, 2026 - Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known
as Jalang’o, has responded to Winnie Odinga’s declaration that she will contest
the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Jalang’o, who announced his interest in the same seat in
February, took to social media on Thursday, October 15, signalling his readiness
to face off with Winnie.
“To the wire, I’m ready,” the legislator stated, shortly
after Winnie announced her intention to enter the Nairobi Senate contest.
Winnie, daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila
Odinga, said she saw an opportunity in Nairobi as the incumbent senator, Edwin
Sifuna, has set his sights on the presidency.
“As Edwin Sifuna
seeks a higher office, I see an opportunity in Nairobi, which is why I have
decided to vie for the Nairobi County Senate seat,” she said.
Jalang’o declared his interest in the position earlier this
year, citing his understanding of residents’ challenges and the need for
stronger oversight of county resources.
“There is nothing that stops me from becoming the Senator of
Nairobi or even the governor,” he said.
“I have walked in various parts of the country and come to
understand what people need.
“I can confirm that I will be vying for the Senate seat in
Nairobi,” he added.
The Nairobi senatorial contest is shaping up as a key race
to watch ahead of the 2027 elections.
