Tuesday, October 20, 2026 - Trouble is reportedly brewing inside Safaricom, where employees are said to be unhappy with Chief Human Resource Officer Florence Nyokabi over allegations of unfair treatment, questionable dismissals, and an increasingly hostile working environment.
According
to insider staff accounts, the telecommunications giant is facing at least 40
employment cases pending before the courts, with potential liabilities
estimated at nearly Ksh 500 million if the company loses the disputes over
illegal and wrongful dismissals.
Some
employees further claim that Nyokabi openly boasts about enjoying the backing
of the CEO, Peter Ndegwa, giving the impression that she is untouchable and
does not have to answer for controversial decisions affecting employees and
their livelihoods.
Staff
have also pointed to a reported KSh 5 million court award involving a former
senior executive in the consumer division over alleged violations of
constitutional rights.
The
claims have raised questions about Safaricom’s handling of employee disputes
and the potential financial implications for the company.
Shareholders are now being urged to ask serious questions about how much the company is spending defending employment cases, who is responsible for the decisions leading to the disputes, and whether ordinary employees are paying the price for an HR department that critics say lacks sufficient accountability.
