Monday, October 12, 2026 - A foreigner visiting Nairobi has sparked an online buzz after recording a video showing women selling “mechi” in one of the city's informal settlements.

In his narration, the foreigner says that beyond the skyscrapers and modern buildings associated with Nairobi, there is another side of the city that is rarely showcased to the outside world.

The video shows women, some appearing to be in their 40s and 50s, seated outside modest, mud-walled houses as they go about their day.

The women seek clients for paid quick encounters, with claims emerging that some charge as little as KSh 100 as the high cost of living continues to bite.
