Speculation as RUTO’s CS holds closed door meeting with DCP Deputy Party Leader, CLEOPHAS MALALA

Thursday, June 18, 2026 - Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Cabinet Secretary, Wycliffe Oparanya, on Thursday, June 18th, held talks with Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Leader, Cleophas Malala, in his office, sparking fresh political debate ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Oparanya disclosed that the meeting focused on the future of the Luhya nation, with both leaders exploring unity within the Mulembe community and broader issues of social and economic development.

“We also exchanged views on the unity of the Mulembe nation and other issues of national importance that are vital to the country’s social and economic development,” he said.

The CS revealed that discussions also touched on the progress of Shirikiana SACCO, launched last week by President William Ruto.

He explained that the SACCO aims to deepen financial inclusion, promote a savings culture, and empower ordinary Kenyans through affordable credit and investment opportunities in the Western Region.

Defending his engagement with Malala, who alongside party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has been a vocal critic of Ruto’s administration, Oparanya stressed the importance of constructive dialogue.

“As we work towards a more prosperous and inclusive Kenya, constructive engagement and collaboration among leaders remain essential in advancing the interests of our people and strengthening national cohesion,” he wrote.

The meeting came days after the United Opposition toured the Western Region, urging locals to abandon the Government, accusing Ruto of reneging on promises of infrastructure and inclusivity.

Opposition leaders further claimed that Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi had sidelined the community for personal gain.

Earlier, Gachagua alleged that DCP was in talks with senior Kenya Kwanza officials secretly seeking to defect, claiming that they remained in Government only for salaries while feeding the opposition with intelligence.
