Monday, May 4, 2026 - A dramatic scene unfolded in Marurui after former Mathare North MCA, Jared Okoth, popularly known as Defao, confronted police officers during his arrest and hurled insults at them in a heated exchange.
The incident occurred after anti-riot police were deployed
to restore order following protests by some local residents accusing former
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of attempting to grab land in the area.
Defao, who resides in the neighbourhood, was arrested during
the chaos after reportedly stepping out to check what was happening.
He, however, insisted he was innocent.
A video circulating online shows the former MCA exchanging words with officers, at one point daring them to shoot him.
He is also seen threatening to call President William Ruto
and warning officers that they risked losing their jobs.
He also bragged about his financial muscles while trolling
the police officers for being poor and living in deplorable conditions.
Defao claimed that he had been with his children when police
lobbed tear gas canisters, adding that he was wrongly arrested and linked to
the protests.
His actions have sparked mixed reactions online, with some
defending him while others criticized him for verbally abusing police officers
during the arrest.
