Humble or Stingy? Former CJ and presidential aspirant DAVID MARAGA’s modest upcountry house sparks reactions (PHOTO)

Friday, May 01, 2026 - Former Chief Justice and presidential aspirant, David Maraga, has become the subject of online chatter after a photo of one of his houses surfaced on social media.

The image, showing a modest residence, quickly ignited mixed reactions.

A section of netizens argued that the home does not reflect the stature of a man who once held the country’s highest judicial office.

Others, however, praised Maraga’s simplicity, hailing him as a rare public figure who chose humility over grandeur despite his powerful past role.

The debate continues to trend, with Kenyans split between admiration for his down‑to‑earth lifestyle and criticism that the house undercuts his former status.

  1. President Nyerere retired without a rural home, the retirement home was built by the Defence forces in his honour. To our CJ Emeritus in my view he showing the way that wealth is measured by the legacy you leave behind and not by house or cars you own, that house is good enough. To the Kenyans lets view our leaders as servants of the people and not view them as superiors and modern day colonizers lets elect leaders be cause of what they can offer to the public in terms of bettering their lives and lets shun away corrupt leaders who come and dish out illgotten wealth for our votes. That vote is the only shield for the next five years. CJ Maraga stood for justice against all the odds and we remember him for that, many leaders have come and go and we don't remember them for any thing.
    My humble submission though.
