2026 - Suba North MP, Millie Odhiambo, has spoken out strongly against
gender-based violence, urging Kenyans to reject violence as a way of resolving
personal conflicts.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, March 23rd,
2026, Millie referenced the shocking case of Claire, a popular SDA choir
member, who was recently attacked with a chemical substance suspected to be
acid in Ngong, Nairobi.
The incident left Claire hospitalized with severe burns at
Kenyatta National Hospital.
Millie emphasized that heartbreak should never be a
justification for assault.
“Say no to gender-based violence. Gender-based violence
affects both men and women, but women are disproportionately affected.”
“The fact that there is an alleged morality issue does not
excuse violence.”
“Ukiachwa, accept and move on,” she wrote.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Claire was cornered by two
assailants as she headed home.
One splashed the corrosive liquid on her before attempting
to flee on a waiting motorbike.
The attack caused her clothes to melt away and left her
screaming in pain.
Members of the public quickly intervened, cornering one
suspect and beating him before police rescued him and took him to Kibra Police
Station.
Millie warned that such acts not only destroy lives but also
drag innocent families into public shame and stigma.
She stressed that violence is never a solution, urging both
men and women to walk away from toxic relationships instead of resorting to
brutality.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident, detaining one person of interest as Claire continues to fight for her life.
