ODM on fire as Governor ORENGO and BABU OWINO break silence on WINNIE ODINGA’s endorsement as Deputy Party Leader

Wednesday, March 18, 2026 - Factional tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deepened on Wednesday, March 18th, after Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, dismissed the endorsement of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP, Winnie Odinga, for the party’s Deputy Leader position.

Orengo argued that Winnie’s political allegiance lies firmly with the Linda Mwananchi faction, stressing that her statements and actions consistently honor the legacy of her late father, Raila Odinga.

“Her soul is with her father and Linda Mwananchi,” he said, downplaying the significance of Linda Ground’s endorsement.

Babu Owino reinforced Orengo’s stance, warning Winnie against associating with Linda Ground, which he described as “a sinking ship.”

He likened her to “a turtle bigger than the pond,” urging her to embrace the “ocean” represented by Linda Mwananchi.

However, ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Ososti, while welcoming the endorsement, cautioned Winnie to tread carefully.

He alleged that Linda Ground intended to use her as a pawn to legitimize outcomes of an upcoming national delegates convention.

The endorsement, announced a day earlier by ODM Nairobi Chairman, George Aladwa, was framed as an effort to restore Nairobi’s representation in the party’s top ranks following Raila Odinga’s death.

Winnie accepted the endorsement and firmly declared that she will remain in ODM.
