2026 - Suba North Member of Parliament, Millie Odhiambo, has urged
authorities to enhance security for gospel singer, Mary
Claire, who is recovering from a brutal acid attack at KNH.
Claire, 24, was attacked on March 17th along
Ngong Road when an assailant doused her with acid before fleeing.
In a statement on Wednesday, March 25th, Odhiambo
warned that the attack may not have been an isolated act, citing fears from
Claire’s family that her jilted ex‑boyfriend, reportedly linked to the National
Intelligence Service (NIS), could be plotting further harm.
“Security should be increased around Claire.”
“The maniac might just want to proceed and kill her using a
hired hand.”
“A family source tells me one or two incidents around her in
the recent past have had them worried,” Odhiambo said.
The legislator also condemned the culture of victim‑blaming,
criticizing false narratives circulating online about the attack.
She dismissed claims that the suspect had paid Claire’s
school fees, noting that family sources had refuted the story.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating Elvis
Opiyo, who is in police custody facing attempted murder
charges.
CCTV footage placed him at a nearby medical facility shortly
after the attack, and investigators are probing his communication records with
a suspected hired assailant to determine if the attack was premeditated.
