12, 2026 - Lawyer Nelson Havi has weighed in on the dramatic removal of
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic
Movement (ODM).
Taking to X, the Senior Counsel heaped praise on Sifuna
while extending him an invitation to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party
(DCP).
Sifuna, who held the influential post for several years, was
ousted on February 11th, 2026, following a resolution by the ODM
National Executive Council (NEC) during a meeting in Mombasa.
The party announced that Busia Woman Representative,
Catherine Omanyo, will serve in an acting capacity until a substantive
replacement is elected.
Reacting to the decision, Havi described Sifuna as “an
intelligent man who simply could not be tolerated by fools.”
In a post on X, Havi, who is eyeing the Westlands
parliamentary seat, welcomed Sifuna to DCP, writing: “Edwin
Sifuna, welcome to DCP. Fools cannot tolerate intelligent men.”
The removal has sparked widespread reactions across Kenya’s political
circles.
Renowned activist and presidential aspirant, Boniface Mwangi,
hailed Sifuna as a principled leader who resisted pressure from “demagogues and
dictators.”
Mwangi insisted that Sifuna remains a vital voice for
Kenyans, regardless of his position in ODM.
Mumias East MP, Peter Salasya, also congratulated Sifuna,
arguing that the ouster salvaged his political standing and opened new
opportunities.
“Now you are free. We can fight for Kenyans together,”
Salasya declared, adding that the decision was “a win for Kenyans in general”
and pledged to campaign alongside him in Nairobi.
“I will now camp in Nairobi to campaign for you. I am now ready to join
the movement,” Salasya declared.
Sifuna’s exit marks the end of a combative tenure in which
he played a central role in shaping ODM’s messaging and strategy.
