Monday, December 15, 2025 - A somber mood has engulfed Aga Khan University Hospital in Parklands, Nairobi, after 18-year-old student, Ian Gikonyo, tragically drowned while swimming at the institution’s pool.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening, December 11th,
2025, during a recreational session with fellow students.
Witnesses said Ian had dived into the water at the Sports
Club but failed to resurface.
His colleagues only realized minutes later that he had
drowned, leaving them shocked and devastated.
Police confirmed the tragedy and moved the body to the
hospital mortuary, where an autopsy and other procedures are expected to be
conducted.
Ian, a first-year medical examination student, had only just
begun his academic journey.
His untimely death has left the university community shaken,
with students mourning the loss of their colleague.
Police have launched investigations into the incident as
tributes continue to pour in for the young scholar.
