RUTO sparks outrage after claiming no competition in 2027 elections after RAILA ODINGA’s death - “I will be done with these ones very early in the morning!”

Thursday, October 30, 2025 - President William Ruto has drawn sharp criticism following remarks suggesting that he faces no serious competition in the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

Speaking during a public address, Ruto stated that the only contender who could have challenged him was the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Look at me and look at the people competing against me.”

“The only person I would have competed with in 2027 is Raila.”

“I will be done with these ones very early in the morning,” Ruto said.

The statement has sparked backlash from a section of Kenyans who accused the President of being insensitive and appearing to celebrate Raila’s death.

Raila Odinga, the long-serving ODM leader, passed away on October 15th and was laid to rest on October 18th at his home in Bondo.

Critics argue that Ruto’s comments were ill-timed and disrespectful, given the nation is still mourning the prominent political figure.

Others cautioned that it is premature for the President to declare victory, pointing to growing public dissatisfaction with his administration’s policies, which many view as punitive and unpopular.
