2025 - Media personality Jacque Maribe has stirred intense online reactions
after posting a deeply personal tribute to the late Raila Odinga, invoking the
traditional Luo mourning chant “Jowi! Jowi! Jowi!”.
In her Instagram Stories, Maribe referenced her connection
to the Odinga family through the late Fidel Odinga, Raila’s son.
“I can finally say Jowii Jowii Jowii without you all judging
me.”
“It is for my friend’s dad, the late Fidel.”
Anticipating scrutiny, Maribe added a disclaimer: “Please
don’t judge me,” a plea to separate her tribute from past controversies,
including her former relationship with Joseph Irungu (Jowie), who was convicted
in the 2018 Monica Kimani murder case.
Maribe emphasized that her post was purely emotional, meant
to honour a family she deeply respects.
In a follow-up, she posed a poignant question to her Luo
followers:
“It is finished… Now, who takes over as kingpin?” - a
reflection on Raila’s towering role in the community and her personal ties
through her child’s Luo heritage.
Maribe shares a son with comedian Eric Omondi.
Her tribute has sparked mixed reactions online, with some
praising her sincerity and others revisiting her past.
