10, 2025 - The legal and academic communities in Kenya are mourning the
brutal assassination of Prof. Kyalo Mbobu, a distinguished lawyer, scholar, and
mentor, who was assassinated in a drive-by shooting in Nairobi on Tuesday,
September 9th, 2025.
Mbobu’s death has triggered an outpouring of grief and
tributes from across the country.
Among those leading the tributes is former LSK President
Nelson Havi, who shared a deeply personal message:
“Kyalo Mbobu taught me Evidence and International Law.”
“He chaired our homeowners committee in Onyonka Estate.”
“A good man, a wonderful teacher and a civil adversary in
Court.”
“Cursed are his killers. May they never have peace in the remainder of their wretched lives.”
Homa Bay Town MP, Peter Kaluma, also paid tribute,
describing Mbobu as “a top-notch lawyer and lecturer” who shaped his legal
foundation.
Mbobu’s career spanned over three decades, marked by
excellence in constitutional law, civil litigation, and public interest
advocacy.
As chair of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT),
he played a pivotal role during the 2017 elections, earning praise for his
impartiality and leadership.
He was a senior partner at Kyalo & Associates Advocates
and served on several corporate boards, including Quest Holdings and Core
Capital Group.
His academic legacy is equally profound - he lectured at the
University of Nairobi and Kenya School of Law, mentoring hundreds of students.
His seminal book, The Law and Practice of Evidence in Kenya,
remains a foundational text in legal education, celebrated for its clarity and
depth.
