Friday, August 8, 2025 - Siaya Governor James Orengo made his first public appearance on Friday, August 8th, putting to rest weeks of speculation regarding his whereabouts and health.
Orengo, who had been noticeably absent from public
functions, attended the funeral of former MP, Phoebe Asiyo, in Wikondiek, Homa
Bay County, where he joined President William Ruto and ODM leader, Raila
Odinga.
Arriving late to the event, Orengo was introduced by Homa
Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, before proceeding to the dais.
Appearing energetic and in good spirits, he addressed the
crowd:
“I am alive, I am a stone, and there is nowhere I am going,”
firmly dismissing concerns about his well-being.
Siaya County Secretary Joseph Ogutu had previously confirmed
that the Governor was away on a private mission abroad, dismissing speculation
that he had abandoned his duties.
However, Ogutu declined to provide specific details, citing
confidentiality and protocol.
Public concern over Orengo’s absence had grown, especially
after a fake resignation letter began circulating online, falsely claiming that
the Governor had stepped down due to health reasons.
The ODM party swiftly dismissed the letter, calling it fake and urging supporters to ignore it.
