Friday, August 8, 2025 - Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, has announced the immediate suspension of 40 health facilities by the Social Health Authority (SHA) over alleged fraudulent activities.
Speaking to the press on Friday, August 8th,
Duale said the affected facilities engaged in corruption and theft of public
funds through inflated or false medical claims.
"In accordance with Section 48(6) of the Social Health
Act, the SHA has suspended these facilities after finding them culpable of
criminal activities," said Duale.
"They will not receive any benefits from SHA during the
suspension period."
The Ministry of Health will also pursue the recovery of
funds already disbursed under questionable claims.
“We will surcharge them to recover any money paid out
fraudulently,” he stated.
Duale cited specific examples, including a Nairobi-based
facility that claimed Ksh201, 600 for a procedure worth Ksh89,600 - overcharging
by more than Ksh112,000.
He also highlighted cases of outpatient visits being
fraudulently billed as inpatient treatments and instances where hospitals
billed for patients admitted elsewhere.
