RUTO signs law that will see over 800,000 unemployed Kenyan youth receive Ksh 6,000 monthly stipend - See Details!

Wednesday, July 30, 2025 - The Cabinet on Tuesday, July 29th, approved the rollout of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, targeting over 820,000 vulnerable and unemployed youth across the country.

The program, co-funded by the Government of Kenya and the World Bank, also includes persons with disabilities.

According to a Cabinet dispatch, NYOTA is designed to enhance employability, recognize skills, and improve access to decent work opportunities - forming a critical part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The project comprises four key components: paid on-the-job training, entrepreneurship support, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certification.

Currently, the On-the-Job Experience Programme is underway, seeking to enroll 90,000 youth in three - to six-month paid work placements with employers.

Participants will receive monthly stipends of Ksh 6,000, deposited into Haba Haba savings accounts to promote financial inclusion.

Applications opened on July 11th and will close on August 15th, 2025.

The Cabinet approval follows recent concerns raised by MSMEs Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni, who cited budget constraints as a key reason for the program’s delayed launch.

She told the National Assembly Committee on Trade that only Ksh1.2 billion has been secured so far, against a requirement of Ksh8.8 billion.
