Wednesday, July 2, 2025 - Former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has addressed growing speculation about his personal wealth and claims that he is a political project of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In an interview on Tuesday, July 1st, Matiang’i
firmly dismissed calls to declare his net worth, stating that he is no longer a
public official and therefore not obligated to make such disclosures.
“I don’t know how much I’m worth, and even if I did, that’s
not for public consumption,” he said.
“I’m not a public official anymore, and you are not a
commission to which I am required to declare my wealth.”
On how he plans to finance his political ambitions,
Matiang’i clarified that he will depend on donations from well-wishers and
supporters who believe in his leadership.
He emphasized that he has no intention of using personal
wealth or engaging in voter bribery.
“I’ll seek support from well-wishers. I have no money to
bribe people or pay voters,” he added.
Addressing claims that he is Uhuru Kenyatta’s political
project, Matiang’i dismissed the label as baseless.
“Uhuru appointed nearly 30 Cabinet members during his
tenure. Some still serve today.”
“Am I a project simply because I was one of them?”
“If so, then am I also a World Bank project, since I just
came from there?” he posed
