Defiant President RUTO reacts to ‘must go chants’ amid protests - ‘Tell me how you want me to go”

Friday, June 27, 2025 - President William Ruto has strongly dismissed mounting calls from opposition leaders for his resignation via ‘Ruto Must Go’ chants.

Addressing the nation during International MSMEs Day celebrations on Friday, June 27th, the President described the “Ruto Must Go” chants, which echoed during the June 25th anti-Government protests, as “empty slogans” devoid of legal or democratic merit.

“If it is Ruto must go, then tell me how you want me to go,” he said.

“We have a Constitution. Let’s follow the law.”

Ruto emphasized that leadership transitions must be grounded in the Constitution, not street demonstrations or chaos.

He warned that continued unrest threatened national stability and condemned those inciting violence for political gain.

“Violence and anarchy will not solve our country’s problems,” he said. “Persuade us with a better plan, not destruction.”

Referring to the protests that erupted across several counties - resulting in looted businesses, injured civilians, and lost livelihoods - Ruto lamented the aftermath.

“On June 24th, many Kenyans had jobs. By the 25th, those jobs went up in flames. And some still call that a success?” he questioned.

The President also issued a stern warning to religious and political leaders allegedly stoking unrest, demanding they articulate a clear vision beyond criticism.

“If you want change, show us your plan. This country belongs to all of us - not just me or my critics.”

Ruto directed security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the June 25th chaos, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and constitutional order.

He concluded by stressing that political change must come through peaceful persuasion, not destruction.

“We don’t have another country. Let’s protect the one we have.”
