Tuesday, May 20, 2025 - A viral video has surfaced online showing a group of young men in Mukuru slums receiving cash handouts to cheer for President William Ruto during his visit to the area on Tuesday.
President Ruto was in Mukuru to officially commission a new
phase of affordable housing units for local residents - part of his
government’s flagship housing program.
In the video, the youths are seen being handed Ksh 1,000 to
share between two people, apparently in exchange for chanting pro-Ruto slogans.
The visibly excited and unemployed youths lined up to
receive the cash moments before the president's arrival.
Chants of "Two Term!" echoed through the crowd as
the hired supporters attempted to paint an image of widespread enthusiasm for
Ruto's leadership and potential re-election bid.
Watch the video.
