Outrage as decomposing body of missing form four student is found in a sugarcane plantation in Kisumu - One suspect arrested

Friday, March 14, 2025 - Police in Muhoroni Sub-county, Kisumu County, are investigating the brutal murder of a 17-year-old Form Four student whose decomposing body was found in a sugarcane plantation in Migingo area.

The half-naked body had visible strangulation marks on the neck, with police suspecting she was abused before being killed.

The deceased, a student at Nyando Mixed Secondary Day School, was reported missing on Monday after failing to return home from school.

On Thursday evening, villagers raised an alarm after spotting dogs emerging from the sugarcane plantation carrying human body parts.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered the girl's body, with her hands and legs partially eaten by animals.

Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Lawrence Owuor, in connection with the murder.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) transferred the body to St. Vincent Mission Hospital for a postmortem as investigations continue.

This shocking incident comes amid growing concerns over rising crime in Kisumu.

Just last week, a missing woman’s half-naked body was discovered dumped in a borehole near Rota Beach, sparking fresh calls for improved security in the region.
