Friday, May 8, 2026 - A 68-year-old woman identified as Teresia Mwikali Amukoa is in police custody after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) uncovered her alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking.
According to a statement released by the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives acted on a tip-off and mounted an
ambush at the main entrance of Mutete Flats in Athi River, where the suspect
was intercepted while riding pillion on a motorcycle.
At first glance, the elderly woman appeared like an ordinary
resident returning home from the market.
However, detectives who had been monitoring her movements
became suspicious and conducted a thorough search.
The search revealed three handbags packed with packages of
Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as bhang, instead of groceries as many would
have expected.
Following the discovery, detectives extended the operation
to the suspect’s residence, where a further search uncovered more packages of
the prohibited substance hidden inside a basket and a transparent polythene
bag.
Authorities believe Mwikali could be part of a larger
narcotics distribution network operating within Athi River and its surrounding
areas.
She was immediately arrested and escorted to Muthaiga Police
Station, where she is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment in
court.
The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits as investigations continue.
