Monday, October 27, 2025 - Police officers on patrol along the Busia-Kisumu Road at Yala Bridge on Monday, October 27th, 2025, intercepted a passenger bus ferrying a consignment of bhang disguised as luggage.

According to reports, the officers flagged down a Kampala-Nairobi bound bus during routine patrols and conducted a thorough search.

During the inspection, they recovered two bales of a green substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, neatly sealed with yellow cellotape.

The contraband was traced to two passengers, who were immediately arrested at the scene.

The suspects are currently being held in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

Police say the exhibits have been secured at the station as investigations continue to establish the source and intended destination of the drugs.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) commended the officers involved in the successful operation and reiterated its commitment to intensifying the war against drug trafficking across the country.

“We remain vigilant in ensuring that our highways are not used as transit routes for illegal substances. The fight against narcotics continues,” read part of the NPS statement.
