Tuesday, September 16, 2025 - The United Kingdom Government has issued a statement following the Kenyan High Court’s decision to grant an arrest warrant for a British soldier linked to the 2012 murder of Agnes Wanjiru in Nanyuki.
In a brief statement released on Tuesday, September 16th,
a UK Government spokesperson expressed condolences to Wanjiru’s family and
affirmed Britain’s commitment to supporting justice efforts.
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Agnes Wanjiru, and
we remain absolutely committed to helping them secure justice,” the
spokesperson said.
Further comment was withheld due to ongoing legal
proceedings.
Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old hairdresser and mother of a
four-month-old baby, disappeared on March 31st, 2012, after being
last seen in the company
of British soldiers at Lions Court Lodge.
Her body was discovered in a septic tank at the same
location on June 5th, sparking public outrage and demands for
accountability.
On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)
informed the High Court that evidence links a British citizen to the murder.
Justice Alexander Muteti granted the arrest warrant, ruling
that murder is an extraditable offence under Kenyan law and that there is
probable cause to proceed with charges.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP),
represented by Acting Deputy DPP Vincent Monda and Homicide Division Head Gikui
Gichuhi, confirmed that extradition proceedings will now begin.
The matter is scheduled for mention on October 21st,
2025, for further directions.
