Monday, September 15,
2025 - The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has found former Alliance
Girls High School teacher, Peter Ayiro, guilty of immoral conduct involving
students, following a formal investigation.
TSC’s Director of Legal, Labour and Industrial Relations,
Cavin Anyuor, told the Senate Education Committee that Ayiro was accused of
grooming students and later - exploiting them after they left school.
The revelations followed an exposé by African
Uncensored titled The Teacher and the System, which
detailed the alleged misconduct.
According to Mr. Anyuor, TSC convened an investigative panel
that summoned witnesses, including Ayiro, the whistle-blower, students, the
school chaplain, and fellow teachers.
The hearing was held on July 25th, 2025.
Although Ayiro resigned before disciplinary proceedings
could begin, TSC maintained it will still take regulatory action against him.
In his resignation letter, Ayiro insisted that he was
innocent of the allegations, claiming that the accusations were fabricated to
tarnish his name.
He argued that resigning was meant to protect the school’s
reputation and prevent further disruption to students’ learning, not an
admission of guilt.
Mr. Anyuor explained that while the employment relationship
had ended with Ayiro’s resignation, TSC retained powers as the regulator to
remove him from the teachers’ register.
He said the commission is reviewing evidence to decide
whether Ayiro will face interdiction, a warning, or deregistration.
TSC regulates about 900,000 teachers in both public and
private institutions nationwide.
