Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - A new opinion poll by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) reveals sharp regional divides in support of the Ruto-Raila Broad-Based Government (BBG), with Mt. Kenya registering the lowest backing at just 11%.
In contrast, Northern Kenya leads with 61% support.
The poll shows the national average for BBG support stands
at 29%, with other regions trailing behind Northern Kenya: Central Rift (45%),
Nyanza (34%), Western Kenya (31%), Nairobi (26%), South Rift and Lower Eastern
(23% each), and Coast (17%).
Opposition to the BBG is strongest in Mt. Kenya (83%),
followed by Coast (75%), Lower Eastern (68%), South Rift (67%), Nairobi (64%),
Western Kenya (63%), Nyanza (58%), Central Rift (50%), and Northern Kenya
(35%).
The BBG was formalized in March 2025 through a memorandum of
understanding between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila
Odinga, aiming to address national challenges like debt, corruption and
political instability.
It followed Ruto’s dramatic July 2024 Cabinet overhaul amid
Gen Z-led protests.
ODM endorsed the BBG and formed a joint technical committee
with UDA to oversee its implementation.
President Ruto continues to champion the model as a path to
national unity beyond ethnic divisions.
