Thursday, September 4, 2025 - President William Ruto emerged triumphant in a spirited bidding contest on Thursday, September 4th, securing a prized Chianina bull for Ksh1 million during the Mombasa International Agriculture Society of Kenya (ASK) Show livestock auction.
The three-year-old bull, weighing 885 kilograms and imported
from South Africa, drew fierce competition from top Government officials.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi opened the bidding at
Ksh300,000, quickly followed by President Ruto’s Ksh400,000 offer.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir raised the stakes to
Ksh500,000, prompting Kingi to counter with Ksh550,000.
Nassir responded with Ksh 600,000 before Ruto surged ahead
with a Ksh700,000 bid.
After brief consultations involving Ruto, Kingi, Nassir,
Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, and Sports Cabinet Secretary
Salim Mvurya, the President sealed the deal with a final Ksh 1 million bid.
Earlier in the auction, Ruto had placed a Ksh200,000 bid for
another bull named Santa Ghetto.
That contest was won by CS Mvurya, who secured the animal
with a Ksh350,000 bid after Mueke raised it to Ksh300,000.
The livestock auction was a highlight of the five-day
Mombasa International ASK Show, held from September 3–7 at the Jomo Kenyatta
Showground in Mkomani.
The event showcases agribusiness innovation, trade, and
cultural exhibitions, including the Farmers’ Oasis and Livestock Pavilion.
Organized annually by the Agricultural Society of Kenya, the ASK Show series promotes agricultural excellence across 16 national, regional and international events.
