Former MP, NGUNJIRI WAMBUGU, reveals why he fell out with GACHAGUA and his views on ‘Wantam and Tutam’ style of politics

Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - Former Nyeri Town MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, has opened up about his political fallout with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during an interview on September 24th, 2025, Wambugu said he remains open to working with Gachagua despite their past disagreements.

“Even my differences with Gachagua are not personal.”

“They are based on principle,” Wambugu stated, adding that disagreements over style or strategy should not hinder collaboration.

He explained that their fallout began when Gachagua left office and became more politically active.

“When he was Deputy President, he operated within structured functions.”

“But once he left office and started doing politics, his approach conflicted with mine,” Wambugu said.

The former MP emphasized his commitment to pragmatic, issue-based partnerships ahead of the 2027 elections.

He dismissed rigid political labels and the “Wantam and Tutam” style of politics, saying his focus is on leaders who offer meaningful contributions, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa and Raila Odinga.

“Let’s not pigeonhole anyone on how they do opposition politics.”

“We’re all pursuing the opportunity or responsibility of running this country,” he said.

Wambugu, who has often criticized Gachagua’s political style, stressed that criticism does not stop cooperation.

“I don’t do politics. Gachagua does politics. For all you know, he could actually succeed,” he added.
