Monday, August 25, 2025 - Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, Hussein Mohammed, has disclosed the amounts Harambee Stars players and technical staff received in allowances and bonuses over the past two months.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Sunday, Hussein said the
federation had ensured the team was well compensated.
“Whatever the team gets is the effort of the federation; we
do everything in our power to make sure we remunerate them well,” he said.
He explained that during the 2024 African Nations
Championship (CHAN), FKF catered for 27 players, despite the Government only
covering 24.
“You’ve got the allowances of the players and the technical
team, 27 players, although the government pays for 24, and we cater for the
balance,” he noted.
According to Hussein, allowances and bonuses paid in July
and August amounted to about Ksh21 million.
In addition, President William Ruto awarded the team Ksh232
million in bonuses.
“Allowances were paid in July when in camp and August up to
yesterday. Then there is the money that was given as bonuses by the President,”
Hussein clarified.
The FKF boss also dismissed claims of interference in squad
selection, assuring fans that Head Coach Benni McCarthy has full autonomy to
pick players based strictly on merit.
President Ruto had earlier promised individual incentives,
including Ksh2.5 million for each player and technical bench members if the
team beat Zambia on August 17th, as well as Ksh1 million and a
two-bedroom housing unit for each player upon reaching the quarter-finals.
