Monday, August 25, 2025 - Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Justin Muturi, has reignited his feud with President William Ruto, accusing the Head of State of being at the center of corruption in Parliament.
Muturi’s attack came after Ruto, on Monday, August 18th,
decried rising graft within parliamentary committees during a joint
parliamentary group meeting between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and ODM.
The President likened the committees to “open-air markets,”
alleging that lawmakers frequently demanded bribes from the Executive,
Governors, and Ministries to sway legislation.
In a sharp rejoinder, Muturi dismissed Ruto’s remarks as
political theatre, claiming that the President himself had used bribery to
consolidate a majority in Parliament after taking power in 2022.
“The first thing William Ruto did was not to build consensus
or deliver his promises. Instead, he raided opposition benches, luring MPs with
cash, plum committee posts, and state patronage,” Muturi alleged.
He insisted that any credible investigation into
parliamentary graft should point to State House.
“If you are truly committed to ending corruption, start at
the top,” he challenged.
Muturi further demanded disclosure of the inducements
allegedly used to sway MPs, questioning how a minority administration quickly
secured dominance.
Ruto had claimed some MPs pocketed Ksh10 million to pass the
Anti-Money Laundering Bill, while others allegedly received Ksh150 million from
counties to block an impeachment.
He also announced a multi-agency task force on graft, though
the High Court has suspended the initiative, citing constitutional concerns.
