ODM Senator predicts GACHAGUA-led Coalition will win many seats in both Parliament and Senate but lose Presidency to RUTO

Wednesday, July 23, 2025 - Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda has predicted a complex outcome for the 2027 General Elections, claiming that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s coalition will secure a significant number of seats in both the National Assembly and Senate, but ultimately lose the presidency to President William Ruto.

Speaking during a televised interview on local media house, the ODM Senator stated that despite internal rifts and Gachagua’s potential ineligibility to run due to impeachment, his political camp will dominate the Mount Kenya region at the parliamentary level.

“Rigathi’s camp will emerge second in the presidential race, but they will have a majority of MPs in both Houses.”

"His party is poised to sweep parliamentary seats across greater Mt Kenya,” Ojienda said.

He further projected that ODM leader, Raila Odinga, would likely support Ruto’s re-election bid, possibly chairing the coalition that will back Ruto's second term.

Ojienda added that Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, would realign with Raila, moving away from the United Opposition.

The Senator also stated that former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i is expected to command strong influence in Kisii and Nyamira counties, despite competition from former Chief Justice David Maraga.

With the IEBC reconstituted and the political ground shifting, Ojienda believes alliances involving Raila, Kalonzo, and Ruto will shape the 2027 race.

So far, Raila has remained non-committal about his own political ambitions.
