Wednesday, July 2, 2025 - Drama unfolded at Neno Evangelism Centre when controversial preacher, Pastor James Ng’ang’a, found himself in a light-hearted standoff with his wife, Murugi Maina, during a church service.
Ng’ang’a, known for his fiery style, called his wife to the
pulpit to chide congregants for skipping overnight prayer meetings (commonly
known as "keshas").
“Come closer, so I can teach you. Call them stupid.”
“How can they leave you here and go sleep in their beds?” he
said, prompting laughter from the audience.
Dressed in a bold red dress, Murugi took the mic but refused
to echo her husband’s harsh words.
Instead, she took a compassionate approach: “I won’t call
you stupid, as he said, because I understand you.”
She explained how women often juggle home responsibilities,
sometimes lacking the freedom men enjoy when it comes to attending church.
Pastor Ng’ang’a interrupted, pressing her to follow his
lead.
“You’re defending them,” he said, to which Murugi responded,
“I am, because their situations are different.”
Their humorous back-and-forth, complete with an eye-roll
from Murugi, had congregants laughing but also showed the couple’s chemistry.
