CNN’s LARRY MADOWO reveals the amount goons were offered by Government operatives to attack him during anti-Government protests in Kenya

Tuesday, July 8, 2025 - Renowned Kenyan journalist Larry Madowo has made a shocking revelation, claiming that hired goons were promised KSh 100,000 to assault him and destroy his equipment while he was covering the recent anti-Government protests.

Taking to social media, the CNN correspondent stated that the attackers admitted on camera that they had been offered the cash bonus to beat him and smash his camera.

"A Kenyan leader has offered paid goons an extra 100,000 shillings if they attack me while covering the protests, beat me up, smash our equipment, and they confessed to that on camera because they were not fully paid for the last protests," Madowo alleged.

Although Madowo did not name the politician allegedly behind the plot, he strongly condemned the threats and growing online calls for his arrest.

“Some pro-Government accounts on social media are calling for me to be arrested for inciting people to violence even though all we have done is report what's going on, call out police brutality, and show the people the truth,” he said.

“In fact, one lawmaker has also called for me to be arrested,”

“We will not be intimidated. Journalism is not a crime.” He asserted.

Currently in Nigeria for an assignment, Madowo assured followers that his departure from Kenya had nothing to do with fear, and reaffirmed his commitment to fearless, factual reporting.

“I am in Nigeria because we had planned this weeks ago. I could not cancel it, and the job is international correspondent, not just Kenya correspondent.”
