Thursday, July 10, 2025 - Officer Klinzy Masinde Baraza, the policeman accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old mask vendor, Boniface Kariuki Mwangi, during the Gen Z anniversary protests on June 25th, broke down in court as he faced murder charges.
Visibly shaken and overwhelmed, Baraza wept silently in the
dock, flanked only by his close family.
No
official from the National Police Service showed up to support
or stand by him during the high-profile appearance.
It was a haunting image: a once-armed officer now
defenceless in court, facing the law he was sworn to uphold-isolated,
abandoned, and emotional.
Baraza is accused of using lethal force on unarmed protesters, specifically firing the bullet that killed Kariuki, a humble street vendor whose death became a rallying cry against police brutality.
