Tuesday, June 24, 2025 – ODM youth youth leader, Kasmuel McOure, has delivered a powerful message to Gen Zs ahead of the June 25th protests, urging unity and resilience despite facing criticism for his past actions.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 24th, McOure
reflected on the deadly 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, where police brutality
claimed the lives of many young Kenyans.
“Last year, around this time, I was preparing for the most
consequential protest I’ve ever joined.”
“We achieved our goals peacefully, but the police responded
with brutal force and claimed many of our own,” he said.
McOure, who is currently out of the country, expressed
solidarity with protesters:
“Though I’m thousands of kilometres away, I stand with every
young person marching tomorrow. Kenya, our motherland, we shall liberate you.”
McOure’s remarks come after he was branded a 'betrayer' for
meeting ODM leader, Raila Odinga, months after the 2024 protests and eventually
taking up a role as ODM youth leader.
Responding to the backlash, he defended the meeting as
intentional and transparent.
“It was a deliberate decision. I sought mentorship to better
pursue societal change,” he stated, adding that learning from seasoned leaders
like Raila offers a realistic path to achieving meaningful reform.
