Monday, June 16, 2025 - Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed that President William Ruto has been trying to reach out to him in a bid to mend political ties, months after orchestrating his dramatic impeachment.
Speaking during a media interview on Monday, June 16th,
Gachagua alleged that the President had attempted to call him, but he
deliberately ignored the calls.
“President Ruto tried to reach me, but I don’t have time for
him. I ignored his call,” said Gachagua, branding Ruto “an enemy of the Mt
Kenya region.”
He further criticized the Government’s empowerment programs,
accusing it of mocking Mt Kenya residents with minimal support compared to
other regions.
“It’s embarrassing that in Mt Kenya, people are being given
beans, while in places like Kapseret, youth are getting matatus and motorbikes.
That’s not empowerment,” he said.
On his 2027 presidential ambitions, Gachagua revealed that
he is ready to shelve his bid if it increases the opposition’s chances of
making Ruto a one-term President.
“I’m a presidential candidate, but if my candidature helps
Ruto win, I will step down in support of Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, or
Eugene Wamalwa - whichever is most viable,” he stated.
This comes after President Ruto stated that he will not hand
over power to individuals “without a plan”
Speaking on Sunday, June 15th, Ruto dismissed the
opposition, accusing them of lacking a tangible development agenda.
“Those other people have no plan, and we cannot hand over to
people whose only agenda is ‘Ruto Must Go.’”
“How will that help the country?” he posed.
