SONKO honoured for philanthropic work by US-based organisation

Thursday, May 22, 2025 - Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been honoured for his continued efforts to uplift the lives of underprivileged and needy communities across Kenya.

The award was presented on Thursday by Margaret Heighton, President and founder of the U.S.-based humanitarian organisation No End to Love, at Sonko’s Upper Hill offices in Nairobi.

Margaret Heighton, accompanied by her husband and co-founder Dave Heighton, commended Sonko’s wide-ranging charitable initiatives, particularly through the Sonko Rescue Team, which has been instrumental in providing access to healthcare, education, and other essential services for vulnerable children and families.

“They commended my efforts and encouraged me to continue with my mission to assist those in need,” Sonko shared in a post on social media following the event. He added that Margaret had described him as a “role model to Kenya and many Kenyans for his kindness.”

The recognition comes as Sonko continues to maintain a strong presence in social outreach, despite being out of political office.

His philanthropic work has often attracted both local and international attention, with his mobile rescue and aid services proving vital during emergencies, medical crises, and natural disasters.

Also present at the ceremony was Ambassador Dominic Obadiah, President and Founder of Civility Voice Diplomats (CVD) and a globally recognized World Civility Ambassador.

Obadiah, a Kenyan national celebrated for his humanitarian efforts across Africa, lauded Sonko’s work for promoting peace and providing tangible assistance to struggling communities.

Manduku McKay Daudi, project assistant at CVD, was also in attendance and praised Sonko for his dedication to humanitarian causes.

In his remarks, Sonko expressed deep gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to continue championing charitable initiatives. “This award strengthens my resolve to keep making a difference. The work must go on,” he said.

The former governor’s recognition adds to a growing list of accolades tied to his social outreach and charitable interventions, which continue to resonate with many Kenyans facing hardship.
