Thursday, May 29, 2025 - Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has recounted a tense moment involving President William Ruto’s powerful aide, who confronted him for wearing a cap in the presence of the Head of State.
Speaking during a public event in Homa Bay on Thursday, May
29th, Joho revealed that the incident occurred shortly after he
joined Ruto’s Cabinet.
He noted that while the President himself was easygoing and
approachable, not all members of his inner circle shared the same demeanor.
“One day, I walked into a meeting wearing my cap - as I
always do.”
“But suddenly, someone aggressively approached me and asked,
‘How can you wear a cap in front of the President?’” Joho narrated.
Joho said the confrontation caught him off-guard and left
him visibly upset until President Ruto intervened and urged him to stay calm.
“What surprised me was that we were discussing serious
national matters, but what caught his attention was just the cap,” Joho said.
The following day, Joho deliberately wore the same cap. This
time, Ruto took a more diplomatic approach, sending someone to politely ask him
to remove it without creating a scene.
While Joho did not name the aide, netizens are speculating
that it was Farouk Kibet, a feared figure within State House circles.
Joho is among several ODM figures brought into Ruto’s
Cabinet under the broad-based Government arrangement.
