Wednesday December 4, 2019 - Narc Kenya chairperson,
Martha Wangari Karua, has blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super
Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, for trying to force the Building Bridges
Initiative (BBI) on Kenyans.
Uhuru and Raila who are the original crafters of the BBI want
the initiative passed through a referendum and not through a parliamentary
process.
But appearing on NTV on Tuesday evening, Martha, who is a
former Justice and Constitution Affairs Minister, told the two off and
rubbished calls for a referendum to implement the BBI report.
Martha said she sees nothing in the initiative that requires
a referendum.
“I want to look at the BBI report and say much of it has
nothing to do with a constitutional amendment," Karua stated.
On the implementation of the report, Karua said Kenyans
should be given a chance to go through the report and make their own decision
as no one is entitled to force the BBI report onto them.
She concluded by saying that the problems Kenyans we have
are not about the constitution but leaders who are elected to lead them.
“The problems we are experiencing now, we still experienced
in a parliamentary system.”
“It is not a parliamentary or a presidential system that
make a strong constitution. It is the caliber of people we elect," Karua
noted.
