Friday December 6, 2019 - Former Gem Member of Parliament, Jakoyo Midiwo, has delved into the ongoing debate on the way forward for the recently-launched Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Speaking on Thursday, Midiwo threw his support behind the push to implement the recommendations through the people, against the idea of using Parliament.
He noted that if BBI were to be taken to Parliament, as is being proposed by some politicians, he would lead the way in rejecting the move.
"If BBI was to be taken to Parliament, I would be the first one to oppose it," Midiwo said.
He also noted that he is against the document being passed in its current state, stressing on the need for it to be amended to come up with a final document with the best proposals.
The former lawmaker said that the document should be further looked into and given the needed streamlining.
"Let's treat BBI as a working document and amend it," he noted.
His opinion corroborates with that of anti-parliamentary campaigners, who want the document subjected to committee of experts before being presented for a referendum.
