Friday October 18, 2019 - Justice Onesmus Makau of the Employment and Labour Relations Court has given Kiambu's Deputy Governor, Dr James Nyoro, powers to re-organise the County Government while exercising executive powers of a sitting Governor.
In his ruling on Friday, Justice Makau gave Nyoro powers to exercise executive powers until the corruption case facing Governor Ferdinand Waititu is heard and determined.
Justice Makau had earlier barred Nyoro from reshuffling any member of the County Executive or any other chief officers, pending the hearing of the petition filed by a Kiambu voter.
But Nyoro, through his lawyer, Kibe Mungai, argued that the order, which was granted without hearing his side of the story, was not warranted because he did nothing that affects the complainant - Marion Njeri.
Nyoro argued that as the acting Governor, he required sufficient legal capacity and scope to discharge his functions to ensure smooth service delivery, efficient governance and accountable administration.
Nyoro took over in July after his boss, Ferdinand Waititu, was charged in court in connection with stealing Sh 588 million from Kiambu County coffers.
