Thursday September 19, 2019 - Senate Majority Leader, Kipchumba Murkomen, has taken issue with the cancellation of the Kimwarer Dam project.
In a thread of tweets he posted immediately after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the immediate cancellation of the Sh22.2 billion dam project, Murkomen said that the President was misled by a technical committee into canceling the project.
According to Murkomen, the report on the cancellation is a deliberate act of discriminating Elgeyo Marakwet County and denying it its rightful share of national projects.
“Planned Cancellation of Kimwarer & restructuring of Arror dams doesn’t surprise me at all.
The plan all along was to kill the projects.
The composition of the technical committee doesn't reflect ethnic & regional balance.
Maringa, Matu, Mwangi & Muiruri have sadly misled the President.
“Tech committee didn’t consult anyone & didn’t carry out public participation.
EMC has been denied rightful share of national projects in a deliberate act of discrimination.
They would rather default & pay contractors billions of money 4 breach of contract than to see our people benefit.”
“I urge the President to constitute a transparent team that is national in character to look at all projects in Kenya & that which will not ethnically profile some regions 4 discrimination.
We’re consulting as people of EMC & we shall do everything to ensure that justice is done
Uhuru made the decision based on a report he received from a Technical Committee, which he had formed following the discovery of irregularities and improprieties surrounding two mega infrastructure projects - Kimwarer and Arror dams.
