Friday September 6, 2019 - President Kenyatta has joined world leaders in mourning the death of former Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, who died on Friday morning.

In his message of condolence, Mr Kenyatta described Mr Mugabe as a statesman and a man of courage who fought hard to establish the nation of Zimbabwe.

Uhuru said the death of Mugabe is not only a blow to Zimbabwe but also to the entire African continent.

“On behalf of the Government and the People of Kenya and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Government and the People of Zimbabwe following the death of former President Robert Mugabe,” Uhuru said.

“Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people.”

“His contribution to the continent will never be forgotten.”

"May his soul rest in eternal peace," Uhuru added.

 Mugabe, 95, died after a long battle with prostate cancer.

 He led Zimbabwe for 30 years.
