Sunday September 1, 2019-Deputy President William Ruto has indirectly said he would oppose the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) if it is aimed at resurrecting the fortunes of some politicians.
BBI is an initiative by President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, and it seeks to create more positions in the Executive.
Speaking on Saturday in Subukia, Nakuru County, where he launched various development projects, Ruto said BBI will not solve the problems Kenyans are facing.
“We have put our energy on making Kenya better for everyone. This country would not be transformed through constant calls for a referendum,” Ruto said.
He urged Kenyans to ignore leaders who want to take advantage of calls for a referendum to amend the Constitution as a route to create division, hatred and confusion in the country.
“Some leaders should stop blackmail and threats. We will not give you the opportunity to divide the country,”
“When BBI puts across their proposals, we will engage in a sober debate. We will not accept the spirit of tsunami that divides this country again,”he said.
The DP said the referendum that Kenyans should support is the one that reduces the wage bill and not to increase it.
